For just over a year, I worked with the development team at the Washington State Legislature to redesign the digital experience of finding legislative information on their website as part of an effort to bring Human-Centered Design into their internal problem solving framework. Research showed that the site didn’t follow norms, meet users expectations, or make it easy for anyone to find legislative information like bills and initiatives, laws, contact information about our elected officials and it lacked basic accessibility features.
I developed a novel UX concept for the website that helped users self-serve, was more accessible, and provided an educational layer for lower information users. Additionally, I rebranded the organization and developed a full brand identity and their digital design system.
The Online Democracy Award celebrates legislative websites that stand out in making democracy more accessible and engaging. The award is given to a website that exemplifies excellence in user-friendly design, informative content and effective technological integration.
